Surpassing the achievements of all previous editions, over 280 activities took place with more than 160 partners at the 4th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) that was held from 26 October to 2 November 2019.

Community participation in the annual initiative has also continued to grow over the past three years - QSW 2019 drew more than 50,000 members of the public and representatives of key governmental and private institutions, a fourfold increase from the 10,000 participants in its inaugural year. In honour and recognition of these sponsors and participants, the organizers of the annual event, Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a Qatar Foundation member, recently hosted an appreciation ceremony.

During the ceremony, Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, Director, QGBC, awarded trophies to the QSW partners and sponsors to acknowledge their efforts and contributions, and highlight the activities that took place during the week. He extended his appreciation to all those who had supported the initiative, saying: “Qatar Sustainability Week’s success has only been made possible through the active engagement and valuable participation of 160 diverse entities who share the vision of Qatar Green Building Council for a sustainable future. “I would like to thank all our partners and sponsors, for being part of this movement to create a more sustainable Qatar and in the process contribute towards achieving our nation’s sustainable development goals.”

The week-long annual QGBC initiative serves as a unique platform to promote Qatar’s sustainability vision as well as engage the community through sustainability-oriented activities. As part of QSW 2019, various stakeholders were able to showcase their innovative solutions to the environmental challenges facing Qatar and the wider region and their programs to facilitate the delivery of the Qatar National Vision 2030 in line with the global sustainability agenda.

During the event, QGBC also confirmed that nominations for the 4th annual Qatar Sustainability Awards are open until January 26, 2020. Qatar’s first and largest sustainability awards will recognize the efforts, commitment, and excellence of individuals, institutions and organizations in furthering sustainable development.
