Qatar University College of Business and Economics (QU-CBE) recently organized Al-Faisal Educational Fund Day aimed to increase student awareness on practices in investment and portfolio management, and to strengthen relations between CBE students and experts from key financial institutions in Qatar such as Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE), Qatar National Bank (QNB), and Amwal.
The event’s program included presentations by QSE Senior Market Operations and Control Officer Mr Tarig Ahmed, Amwal Portfolio Manager Mr Rami Jamal, and QNB Relationship Manager Mr Ahmed Harfoush. They discussed finance-related topics such as technical difficulties that investors face when trading in stock markets, new trends in investment, and the benefits of market diversification. It also included a discussion in which CBE Portfolio Management students shared their experience and highlighted the importance of funding in enriching their educational process.
In his remarks, CBE Dean Dr Khalid Shams Al-Abdulqader said: “In hosting this event, CBE is demonstrating its commitment to strengthen links with financial institutions in Qatar and to provide its students with an optimal learning environment that prepares them for a successful professional life. This shows the College’s ongoing efforts to offer its students practical experience in which they get the opportunity to interact with experts and professionals, which helps them to sharpen their skills and to apply their theoretical knowledge out of the classroom, in line with its mission to produce highly skilled graduates who are able to meet the needs and the requirements of the market.”
Mr Tarig Ahmed presented the technical issues related to investing at QSE and the institution’s continuous efforts to offer quality investment opportunities to local and foreign investors. Mr Rami Jamal briefed the students on the history and characteristics of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) as well as the benefits of ETFs to investors. He also compared this type of investment opportunity with other available opportunities such as mutual funds, and discussed the proposed Qatar Exchange Traded Fund managed by Amwal.
